At its core, Roblox is a values-driven company. Our values define how we work together, find and develop the right talent, and define our own vision for success. One of these values is Respect the community: we consider our impact on the world, strive to respect everyone’s best interests, and communicate authentically. Our community includes creators, developers, users and employees of Roblox.

Zooming in: The Roblox community of developers and creators

Developers and creators are an integral part of the Roblox community. We wouldn’t have a product without them, so understanding their needs, minimizing their overhead, and making their experience seamless and productive are all key priorities.

One way we do this is through our communication touchpoints: maintaining an open dialogue with our creators and developers through focus groups and our DevForum. But we also believe in understanding the product by using it ourselves. Our internal Game Jams are one example of how we get in touch with our developer community’s workflow through direct, hands-on experience.

Support developers and creators with Game Jams

Game Jams are a long-standing industry tradition that has been a part of Roblox’s culture since its inception. One of our most popular Game Jams is held each year, usually in conjunction with Roblox Developer Conferenceand challenges development teams to showcase their skills and win awards by creating incredible Roblox experiences in a short amount of time.

Internally, we use Game Jams as an opportunity to work inside the product under pressure. This helps us evaluate the strengths of Roblox Studio and the other tools we provide, but it also serves to highlight areas where we can improve and strive for even more flawless work.

Many groups on Roblox host Game Jams throughout the year. A recent Jam held by our Creators Group helped us uncover hundreds of small issues, many of which have already been resolved to greatly improve the experience for both creators and developers.

Last December, we held a Game Jam where our CTO and VPs of our main product and engineering teams got to meet their own creations. By involving even our most senior executives in Game Jams, we ensure that everyone at Roblox can empathize with our developers and creators and understand their daily workflow.

Because the more we understand our community, the more we can support them, and the more we support their vision, innovation and ambitious goals, the further we will move forward together.
