If you’ve recently received an “Account Name Warning” message in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 stating that the reason is “Inappropriate username”, know that there are many such problems. Why are you getting this message, what can I do about it, and what are the consequences?
MW2 Account Name Warning The username is offensive
The “Account Name Warning” in Modern Warfare 2 has been troubling MW2 and Warzone 2 players for the past few weeks. In particular, a large number of players have started receiving messages stating that their account has an “Offensive Username” despite that this, it would seem, is not appropriate at all. “Has anyone else had anything like this?” asks u/Luna_RabbitS. “I was just playing a match leveling Arrow, after I exited the game I got a message asking me to change my name.” And she is far from alone.
Unfortunately, the main reason for this is the simple fact that COD games have an automated reporting system. This is due to the large number of players and reports. It would be impossible for employees to manually check each report. Instead, if people report a problem enough times to the player, the system will flag them for that problem. As a result, you get the “MW2 Account Name Warning Username Offensive” message from a mass message from a few angry people.
So angry players are abusing the report system to falsely flag people. If you believe you have been improperly reported, you may submit a request to Activision Support. Unfortunately, they are usually relatively slow to process all complaints. So you will probably have to wait a while for them to decide your application. Fortunately, the worst that can happen here is a forced name change. That being said, this is all you need to know about this issue.
