Ukrainian authorities say defense forces will continue to fight for the eastern city of Bakhmut and an order has been issued to send reinforcements to the area.
However, the Institute for War Studies said that Bakhmut is not essential in itself – operationally or strategically.
Although taking the city is necessary but of limited value to Russian forces, Moscow’s attacks will most likely culminate after attacking troops secure it, if not before, due to the heavy losses Russia has suffered in the battles for the city.
The British Ministry of Defense assesses that the Russian military leadership is failing to equip its forces properly despite close combat commitments in Ukraine.
