This weekend, Parisians will be able to check the progress of restoration work at Notre Dame with the opening of a special village in the cathedral’s vestibule, which will showcase the work of masters at the restoration site.
The well-known building was partially destroyed by a large fire in April 2019.
President Emmanuel set a goal of reopening Notre Dame in time for the 2024 Paris Olympics – which remains the goal.
Work on the interior renovation is well advanced, while work on the tower, vaults and frames has actually begun with the 100-metre-long, 600-tonne scaffolding recently erected.
Completed in 1345, Notre Dame is considered one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture and was a major tourist attraction in Paris.
