The Wonderful 101: Remastered’s After School Hero DLC, which was promised as an additional Kickstarter goal back in 2020, has now arrived and is free to download on PlayStation and PC.
After School Hero was one of several stretch goals outlined when developer PlatinumGames decided to take on the remastered version of the game Wii U cult classic The Wonderful 101 on Kickstarter back in 2020 and promised a side-scrolling adventure focused on a “young hero” named Luke.
The Wonderful 101: Remastered’s other DLC goal, the Time Attack mode, launched back in 2021, so the DLC, originally titled “Luke’s First Mission,” had to wait a bit.
Now re-titled After School Hero, it follows new recruit Luka in a 2D side-scrolling platform adventure of love, battle and growth. It’s obviously a significant departure from the base game, and the heart of the experience is a new dual-stick combat system where players can unleash the power of three different types of lasers with Luke’s trusty Stingy Eye.
After School Hero has two different modes: Arcade Mode, which tells the story of Luke’s journey to becoming a hero known as Wonder Goggles, and Challenge Mode, which gives players access to any drill of their choice as they search for hidden spots on each stage The first part of the story is already available, and the second part will be released next Friday, May 26.
Former Eurogamer Editor-in-Chief Martin Robinson had a lot of nice things to say about The Wonderful 101: Remastered when it launched in 2020, awarding it a Recommended badge and noting the excitement in its chaos.
