Located amidst a stream of exciting ads at Dead in daylight anniversary broadcast, it became known that Ikumi Nakamura, known for her work on Bayonetta and The Evil Within, has developed three new Dead by Daylight skins for horror game. The skins are part of a wider Artists from the Fog collection, in which four members of the DBD community have been selected to create their own skins and commemorate key moments in Japanese horror history.
All three characters chosen by Ikumi resonate with the Japanese fanbase and were chosen specifically for this reason: Oni, Susie from Legion, and Yui Kimura. The Oni skin, Blind Rage, sees a killer blinded by drops of candle wax, and is inspired by both the character’s own knowledge and a mass murder that occurred in Japan.
The Legion network will no doubt be happy to hear about a new outfit for Susie, as the four Legion heroes will have to share makeup between them, leaving them less of a focus than the other assassins. This assassin’s outfit is inspired by Sukeban, another name for female gangs in Japanese schools, hence her schoolgirl outfit. Ikumi felt that the gang theme fit perfectly with the backstory of Legion.
And finally, the only surviving skin designed by Ikumi, the Yui Kimura skin, is perhaps the one most closely associated with the artist herself. As the leader of the game’s very own motorcycle gang, Yui Kimura embodies Ikumi’s own love of bikes, and her Dark Racer costume includes comfortable, well-fitting clothing to maximize mobility both on the back of a motorcycle and while trying to escape from an assassin. She also has a red scarf wrapped around her leg, which I think would come in handy for street racing.
The rest of the Artists from the Fog outfits can be obtained for Felix and Yoon Jin, as well as the Twins and the Huntress. Community winners came from all over the world, Canada, America, Poland and Spain.
