In came Pedro Pascal, known for his roles in The Last of Us and The Mandalorian. hot volunteering to torture himself with the hottest food he’s ever eaten and share some insights about his career and various roles. The actor choked back tears as he munched on spicy hot wings as he talked about playing the cold, unfeeling male archetype Joel in HBO’s adaptation of the popular video game franchise.
Asked by host Sean Evans how Pascal balances “the noble traits that make a character like Joel heroic against the weaker ones that make him human,” Pascal joked, “You’re smart. I never thought of it that way. .”
Then, after a moment’s thought, Pascal added, “There’s something strange about the very limited appearance typical of such male archetypes. Don’t show your feelings, people will see that you are weak, survival is the key, don’t let anyone in. The development of human relationships is not, at least in his understanding, the key to survival. But then only to understand that he cannot live without it at any cost.”
And, of course, Pascal had a lot of great lines just pushing through the pain. “Has anyone ever projectile vomited during?” Pascal asked. “I’m going to find out where all my nerve endings are.”
HBO’s The Last of Us airs on HBO Max every Sunday at 6:00 PM PT / 9:00 PM ET, with the Season 1 finale airing on March 12. Season 2 may begin filming this year.
