A 23-member Indian team traveled to Australia on Saturday for a five-game series kicking off in Adelaide on 26 November as part of preparations for next year’s World Cup, which will be held in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela on 13-29 January.
“I think this is a great opportunity to test ourselves and the level we were at before the World Cup.
“Australia is one of the top contenders for the title and playing against them will definitely help us on our way to the tournament,” Harmanpreet, who will lead the team in Australia, said in a Hockey India broadcast.
“I don’t think we have returned to Australia after the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in 2018. As a team, we are excited and happy to play in Australia, which offers unique playing conditions.”
India will play back-to-back matches on 26 and 27 November, followed by matches on 30 November, 3 and 4 December.
“These matches will be a real test of our fitness levels. Each match will be of high intensity and focus on recovery after each game. Each player will try to bring their ‘A’ game against Australia before the final. Team selection for the World Cup,” said the defender. Amit Rohidas.
