Telltale Games has delayed the release of The Wolf Among us 2.

Announced last February and previously the game was supposed to appear this year, and now its release is scheduled for 2024.

“We’ve made the difficult decision to delay The Wolf Among Us 2 until 2023,” Telltale said on Wednesday.

“We started working on it in 2020, and we’re still determined to tell the ongoing story of Bigby and the rest of the Fabletown gang. However, it will take more time. As disappointed as you are about it, we feel worse for saying it.

“We are committed to creating the sequel that fans deserve and doing what is necessary for the game while protecting the health of our team.”

The Wolf Among Us 2 is the sequel to the 2013/14 episodic thriller based on Bill Willingham’s Fables comic book series.

It will be available for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox Oneand PC by Epic Games Store.

Telltale CEO Jamie Ottilie said further commenting on the delay IGN that the studio switched from Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal 5 to develop the game, which required “quite a lot of work” in the redesign.

According to Ottilie, in order to meet the previously planned launch period of 2023, Telltale had to either ship an unfinished product or shut down.

“If we release this game and it’s not ready, we’re going to be ripped to shreds,” he said. “The expectations are pretty high, and we want to have the time to live up to them, and we want to be proud of it and know that, ‘Hey, this is the best game we could ever make.’

He added: “I did (the crunch) and I don’t want to do it again and it’s not fair to ask for it. You can’t plan a business around that. Yes, this is partly about maintaining a healthy work culture. We don’t want to burn our good people.”

Ottili previously said that the game will be released episodically, possibly in a weekly format similar to the TV show, and that all content will be completed by the time the first episode debuts.
