Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick briefly commented on the possibility of a new update to the mid-generation console, saying that it is “likely” that the updated PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles will be released.

“I guess we will,” said Zelnyk GamesIndustry.Biz, adding that the previous generation of updated consoles “didn’t have a big impact on the business” and that Take-Two will continue to support the latest generation of hardware. With a newer Nintendo console rumored to be released next year, Zelnick says the company will continue to support that console as well. “Yes, I think we will continue to support it,” he said.

The current generation of game consoles is more than two years old now, as the Xbox Series X|S and PS5 were introduced in November 2020. In comparison, the Xbox One saw a mid-generation update in the form of the Xbox One X in 2017, four years after launch, and the PS4 Pro was released three years after the PS4 launched.

Both consoles focused on delivering a native 4K gaming experience and saw the rise of performance and quality modes that prioritized according to framerate or resolution. In most cases, it was one or the other, and current-gen consoles also began to offer more limited graphics options for new games. Names such as Gotham Knights is only playable in 4K and 30fps on console and Redfall’s 60fps mode will only appear in a future update.

There are a number of reasons why fewer new console games are able to hit the 4K 60fps standard, and as Digital Foundry explained, the return of 30 fps games is inevitable in the current generation of consoles. It is worth noting that Sony filed for a patent for the new disc drive in Aprilfueling rumors that a PS5 with a removable disc drive is in the works.

As for Take-Two, it expects a very profitable fiscal year 2025, as the company suggested that GTA 6 will be released next year and help him get an absurd amount of cash.
