NEW DELHI: Praises to Shikhar Dhawan, who also led the ODI series against the Indian team. New ZelandFormer India coach Ravi Shastri said the opener “didn’t get the praise he deserved”.

But Shastri He feels that while Dhawan has been successful as both a player and captain, his efforts tend to be overlooked, mostly centered around the likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
Speaking to Prime Video broadcasters, Shastri said, “He’s very experienced. He doesn’t get the praise he deserves. Honestly, most of the attention is on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. But when you look at his one-day cricket record and look at some of his shots against the best teams in big matches, that’s it. It’s an extraordinary record.”
Shastri added that the 36-year-old opener has all the shots to do well against quality fast pitchers.
“A left-hander at the top makes a lot of difference. He’s a natural batting player, world-class fast bowling, has all the shots to counter pull, cut and drive. He comes to bat and I think his experience will come in handy here.
“There are a lot of talented youngsters around, but I think his experience in this format of the game will be valuable,” said Shastri, who described Dhawan as a gunplayer earlier in the year.
In his 72-round shot, DhawanWith more than 6500 ODI runs, 13 hit fours.
Dhawan will lead the Punjab Kings in the next edition of IPL.
