Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew is an upcoming game from the developers of Desperados 3 and Shadow Tactics, which is another way of saying that it’s one of the most exciting games currently in development. Mimimi recently released a new “developer video that talks about the systems, world and playable characters of the magical pirate Sneak ’em up.”

It’s a terrible cliché to describe a setting as a “character”, so I cringed a bit when they described Shadow Gambit’s native pirate ship, the Red Marley, as “one of the game’s main characters”. It was redeemed a few minutes later when it was found to be literal. You can talk to your ship, which has a big ghostly green face.
The ship also introduces another change: you can sail to different islands to complete missions in any order, rather than the linear progression of Desperados 3 and Shadow Tactics. Each island is a self-contained sandbox with different entry points where you can choose to land, and you can choose different crew members to take with you depending on your approach to the mission.
The developers at Mimimi also talk a lot about Shadow Gambit being the first of their games to feature magic, and how breaking free from realism allowed them to introduce more creativity. They illustrate this by showing a new character, an “undead ninja pirate” named Toya who can teleport over long distances.
Catherine has already received a personal tour of Shadow Gambit earlier this yearand has talked to Mimimi for a long time about his ambitions for the project and the “stealth strategy” genre.
