With Scream VI It should come as no surprise that one of the films set in New York City was shot by the filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett He sought inspiration from a 1989 horror film Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan.
during the conversation with Entertainment Weeklyexecutive producer Chad Villella confirmed that he and the directors had “read”. Jason takes Manhattan before going into production. Villella said:
“Oh, we definitely looked into it and we wanted to make sure we didn’t have a boat! We wanted to be in the city, in the part of New York where we live, that was very important to us. Obviously, being in the city is scary. thing. With Woodsboro (the setting for most of the previous Scream movies) you can stand out so easily, but in a city you can be surrounded by millions of people and still feel alone. That’s what we we wanted to take pictures.”
It wasn’t just Scream VI inspired by Jason takes Manhattan, but the filmmakers also planted an Easter egg in the film. during the conversation with Bloody-Disgusting, Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett were specifically asked about the Easter egg that was placed in plain sight. Bettinelli-Olpin said:
“I think it’s funny; It was really a coincidence. We kept joking, obviously; From the first time we read the script, Jason Takes Manhattan was part of the conversation. But we never had room to call him in the film. Then, what you’re trying to say is, we had a list of Paramount movies that we could use in the movie. When we saw the second one, we thought, “Oh, there it is.” Everything fell into place.”
Gillett continued, “It was the lowest hanging fruit, and often you don’t want to pick the lowest hanging fruit because it seems so obvious, and then you see it and then you go, ‘Well, no. better choice.” Bettinelli-Olpin adds, “…if you get it, you get it. It tells you that you are ready for a fun trip.”
The Jason takes Manhattan The Easter egg is prominently displayed at the beginning of the film. Did you get the movie the first time you saw it? I didn’t realize it until the second time I saw it, so keep your eyes peeled Jason takes Manhattan respect Scream VI! Since the movie is on TV, it’s not that hard to miss.
The next chapter in the horror saga “continues as the four survivors of Ghostface’s murder leave Woodsboro behind and begin a new chapter.” They are trying to start a new chapter in their lives in New York City and well… things don’t go so well for them because Ghostface is on the move again and the city is on a killing spree.
Did you see Scream VI yet!? Did you like it!?
