Scotland dual Stuart Hogg And Fin Russell Withdrawn from the squad ahead of Saturday’s final Guinness game Six Nations match against Italy.

The influential duo suffered ankle and knee injuries, respectively, in the closing stages of Sunday’s defeat to Ireland and are returning to their club for treatment.

Edinburgh fly-halle Charlie Savala was called up to the squad, while Josh Bayliss returned to the group after being released to play in Bath over the weekend.

It is not yet clear whether Richie Gray will be available for this weekend’s game at BT Murrayfield. The 33-year-old lock was forced out after just six minutes on Sunday, on suspicion of rib damage. He remains in the squad for now, raising hopes he may be available to face Italy.

Scottish Rugby said in a statement on Monday: “Stuart Hogg suffered an ankle injury and will not be available for this weekend’s game against Italy. He will return to his club when the time comes to manage this injury further.

“Finn Russell suffered a knee ligament injury. He will return to Racing 92 to continue his rehabilitation.

“Richie Gray was injured during the Ireland game and will remain in the squad to continue to be evaluated by paramedics.”
