RRR was one of the most popular films of 2022 and the same can be true of Indian film stars Ram Charan and Rama Rao Jr.’s NT. The former is now targeting Hollywood and casting big names like Marvel, Mission impossibleand Quentin Tarantino at the top of his wish list.
For more than a decade, Charan has been one of the most famous actors in Tollywood, the other side of the Indian film industry apart from Bollywood. He acted in many famous Telugu action films, including Magadhiram and Rangasthalam. now, Netflix‘s RRR provided him with wide recognition outside his native country. For all who have seen RRRCharan’s ambitions will not sound surprising as the film amply confirms that the actor’s acting skills are at their highest level.
In an interview with The Hollywood ReporterCharan expressed his excitement RRR potentially creating more crossovers between Indian cinema and Hollywood by naming Marvel and Mission impossible as the two franchises he loves the most. “I’m a big fan of Tony Stark. The youth follow these Marvel stories so closely and it’s a huge franchise in India,” said Charan. If Charan were to name one director he would like to work with in America, he would not hesitate to say, “Quentin Tarantino. He is my favorite. I love him. He is amazing. It’s unique and I just love it. I have been watching his films since childhood.” Frankly, all three seem like fitting choices for the Indian star.
During the interview, Charan also expressed his wish for Indian cinema to stop dividing language barriers. Charan said RRR‘s The awards season campaign aimed to promote “a sense of the existence of one film industry called the Indian Film Industry”. Despite being a standalone film scripted by SS Rajamouli, Charan and NTR will return to an RRR a sequel already in development.
Finally, Charan also expressed his disappointment RRR not winning India’s Best International Film at the Oscars, nor the much-contested Best Picture award, though it has a chance to bring home the win as Naatu Naatu is up for Best Original Song. Charan’s fight scenes in RRRespecially the opening sequence, impressed many, including James Cameron, who has turned into an avowed admirer of Rajamouli having watched the film twice in admiration of the work of his fellow directors.
Mission Impossible – Retribution of the Dead might mean it’s too late for Charan to realize that dream, but since Marvel still has X-Men there are many roles in store for him to audition for in the future to become a true superhero once and for all.
RRR now available on Netflix.
