English number one Cameron Norrie continued his solid run. Lyon Open by defeating sixth-seeded Sebastian Baez to advance to the semi-finals.

Defeating Baez at the same stage in last year’s competition, the defending champion won 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 in the quarter-final match.

A strong third set saw Norrie advance to the semi-finals for the fourth time at Lyon, and he was pleased with his confidence in this decision-making process.

“He came back strong in the second set, winning tougher games like I was in the first set,” Norrie told the ATP website.

“I tried to reset and came out with a lot of energy.

“I’ve won a lot of three-set games this year, so I was very confident in my decision and thought it was a solid game.”

The win marks a semi-final against Francisco Cerundolo, who defeated Norrie’s friend, Briton Jack Draper, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 on Thursday.

Brandon Nakashima advanced to the other semi-finals by defeating third seed Tommy Paul 6-3 7-6 (4) and faced Arthur Fils, who reached the last four after Felix Auger-Aliassime withdrew due to a shoulder injury.

At the Geneva Open, Nicolas Jarry knocked out two-time champion Casper Ruud in the quarterfinals in a 3-6 7-6 (2) 7-5 victory and will now face each other. Alexander Zverevreaching the semi-finals after rival Wu Yibing was forced to retire.

Taylor Fritz also beat Ilya Ivashka 6-1, 6-2 to advance to the semi-finals. Grigor DimitrovStruggling to beat Christopher O’Connell 6-7 (5) 7-5 6-4.
