real Madrid refused UEFA‘s offer of compensation to fans affected by last year’s chaos Champions League end.

All of the 19,618 fans who bought tickets from the authorities Liverpool will be entitled to a full refund following events outside the allocation. France StadiumIncluding serious traffic jam problems and police application of tear gas, which delayed the kick-off by more than half an hour.

However, Madrid fans will have to meet certain criteria set by Uefa, specifically regarding those who cannot or never enter the stadium before the scheduled 21:00 kick-off time.

But the LaLiga club said the findings of an independent report released last month that said Uefa was primarily responsible for the failures that led to an almost “massive death toll” meant that the offer of compensation did not match the seriousness of the events.

“Given the certainty of the experts’ findings and the seriousness of the events announced, Real Madrid is in talks with UEFA to evaluate the compensation to be offered to the fans,” the statement said.

“Our club was fully confident that these solutions would be commensurate with the seriousness of the events, the extent of the damage and Uefa’s responsibility.

“Our club unfortunately finds UEFA’s offer insufficient. It consists only of reimbursement of the ticket price subject to fulfillment of a number of conditions, including proof of time to access the stadium.

“The content of the report highlights that all the fans who participated in the final were victims of inadequate organization and their safety was compromised.

“Therefore, regardless of whether they entered the stadium or at the expected time – which in any case was due to the extraordinarily good behavior of the fans of both clubs – the truth is that all the Fans experienced an unacceptable delay at the start of the match.

“Furthermore, there was unacceptable insecurity both on entry and exit from the stadium, as well as additional damages such as theft, assault and threats (from local youth after the match).

For this reason, Real Madrid has decided not to cooperate in the limited compensation procedure proposed by UEFA, which we asked to rectify the situation and for which we take full responsibility.”

The club said it would offer assistance to all fans who wish to “make appropriate claims against UEFA for their personal and legitimate interests”.
