MANILA, Philippines – Cignal is pleased to kick off its semi-final bid with a three-set win over Chery Tiggo, hoping to finally get over the bump in the end-of-season Premier Volleyball League Strengthened Conference.

Determined to advance to the finals this time by winning consecutive bronze medals in the first two conferences of the 2022 season, HD Spikers successfully completed their first semi-final mission after defeating the USA in sets 28-26, 25-17, 25-23. Passes at Philsports Arena on Thursday.

Cignal had a stake in the semi-finals with Creamline, while Tai Bierria came off the bench and popped in with 21 points.

In previous conferences, Cignal has had great knockout campaigns but hasn’t always been able to reach the championship streak.

In the Open Conference semifinals, HD Spikers took a 1-0 lead after losing back-to-back games to Petro Gazz in a best-of-three series. Then, Cignal lost three of the Invitationals’ four matches in the semi-final round.

“I think this is the first time we’ve experienced such a big win in the semi-finals because in the last two conferences we played with our backs to the wall and we didn’t make it to the finals. “We started well into the semi-finals this time,” HD Spikers coach Shaq Delos Santos said in Filipino.

“We’re here now. I hope we seize the opportunity. We have to do what we have to do and keep improving.”

Cignal started with a 3-3 record behind this conference and needed to beat F2 Logistics and Choco Mucho in their last two qualifiers to catch the final bus ride to the semi-finals.

In Delos Santos’ last three wins, Bierria’s new rotation from the bench has worked wonders as locals, including Angeli Araneta, launch a balanced attack against their opponents.

“Tai has been more effective in our new rotation. Because everyone on the team is ready to deliver. Whoever gets called up is ready to play and provide quality minutes,” said Delos Santos.

HD Spikers’ top scorer with 10 points in the game, Araneta, agreed with his coach that they were always ready to repay the team’s trust.

“I always make sure that I am always ready for the team. Because each of us is really eager to give our best when the coach decides to take us on the field,” he said. “The trust of my teammates has also been a big boost to my self-confidence.

Faced with the team that beat them in the qualifiers, Araneta said HD Announcers are really determined to return Chery Tiggo in a more important match, as only the top two teams with the best records can advance to the top three. finals.

“Honestly, we were all excited to face Chery because we played them in our second elimination game. We wanted to show the adjustments we made. “We only had a day’s recovery after the game we played last Tuesday, but it has helped us maintain our momentum.”

Delos Santos said it remains a mystery whether Bierria will start their next game. But one thing is for sure, they are looking forward to going further in this Strengthened Conference, having won their last two games against Creamline on Sunday and Petro Gazz on Tuesday.

“I hope we can maintain this level because we still have a lot to work on. Winning our first [semis] “The fact that the game is played in straight sets does not mean that our last two games will be any easier,” said the Cignal coach. “Our next games will be harder. But we’ll take one game at a time. We’ll prepare and recover, rest and practice Creamline.”

Araneta promises nothing in their game against the star-studded Creamline, but expects Cignal to put up a good fight.

“We both won in straight sets today. We’ll see [who will remain unbeaten] Sunday,” he said.
