Nintendo reported that Pokémon Violet and Scarlet sold over 10 million copies in the first three days of release, making it the company’s biggest launch in that time period.

Pokémon Violet and Scarlet have faced significant criticism since release – Digital Foundry called the games “complete technical glitches” – but that hasn’t stopped them from breaking the already significant records of previous games in the series.

We already knew that Violet and Scarlet were off to a great start when charting firm GfK confirmed that the pair not only became the biggest UK boxed video game launch of the year, but also the second biggest UK boxed Pokémon release of all time. — second only to the Sun and Moon 3DS.

But Nintendo’s 10 million sales figure puts Violet and Scarlet’s accomplishments in a whole new perspective, surpassing not only Pokémon Legends: Arceus, which became Japan’s second best-selling Switch game earlier this year, but every other Nintendo game before it.

Nintendo’s announcement followed the similar success of God of War Ragnarök, which sold 5.1 million copies in its first week, making it the “fastest-selling” first-person PlayStation game to date.
