Building on the overwhelming success Xbox Game Studios Derby 2021 In 2023, Rare vs. Playground Games, massive football shenanigans are being scaled up in the name of SpecialEffect! This year, 24 teams from UK game development studios will descend on St George’s Park in the heart of England on Wednesday 26th April to play football around the clock to raise money for charity.
This ambitious event has greatly expanded since the heady days of 2020 when the first football match took place FIFA a match between Rare and Playground. It grew into a real football match in 2021 and has now turned into a multi-studio multi-hour effort, with all proceeds going to the gaming charity SpecialEffect.

At 18:00 UTC on Wednesday, April 26, two of the 24 teams will begin play. All 24 participating teams, including the Rare, Playground, EA, and Sumo squads, will be assigned one team color: red or blue. Each team will be on the field for the full 90 minutes, with all teams representing either the red or blue side. Every goal scored by each team will contribute to an epic battle between the reds and blues, with the final whistle – and the score – coming at 18:00 UTC on Thursday 27 April.
