Nightdive Studios offered us our first look at System Shock 2: Enhanced Editionthe new version of the game is “presented for the first time on next-gen consoles”.
It seems that we are constantly waiting for the release of some kind of System Shock, in particular a remake of System Shock – which is due out on May 30, in just over a week (albeit only on PC). Now, Nightdive Studios has given us another System Shock title to look forward to, this time Enhanced Edition System Shock 2. Earlier this week, the developer showed off the first trailer, which seems to really maintain the look of the original game, only with a modern definition and frame rate.

According to the trailer description, “System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition was created to reverse-engineer the original code to port SS2 to the KEX Engine and is available for the first time on next-gen consoles… All cinematic elements, textures, characters and weapon models have been updated, and the cooperative multiplayer the game has been redesigned to create a seamless experience.”
Also, there’s good news for those who enjoy playing the original game with mods, as Nightdive Studios says it’s “also working with the systemshock.org community to integrate all the best mods and updates.” It’s really nice to see a project committed to preserving this aspect of video game history.
While the System Shock remake is finally set to release at the end of the month, there is no release date for System Shock 2: Enhance Edition. Although if you pre-order the remake of the original game, you’ll also get System Shock 2 Enhanced Edition for free.
The System Shock remake has suffered a few delays and was originally supposed to be released in March, but has been pushed back to May, and the console release of the game has been delayed indefinitely, so be sure to stay tuned for any updates from Nightdive.
