MANILA, Philippines—College of St. Benilde coach Charles Tiu always challenges Will Gozum to step up for his team, but as the Final Four season approaches, there are two players he wants to make a bigger contribution to.

The Blazers’ two “Migs”, Oczon and Corteza, were huge factors in the team’s 100-88 win over Lyceum on Friday, but Tiu wants them to reach their peak before the postseason.

“He (Corteza) is a big support for us, but I tell him if he wants to win prizes, he needs more rebounds because rebounds are important. Still, his improvement over last season is great, ”said the chief tactician.

The winger finished the game with 13 points, four turnovers and just three rebounds.

Oczon, on the other hand, tied Gozum and Enoch Valdez with 18 points, the Blazers’ highest-scoring win, but shot as low as 33.3 percent from the field and only shot one out of six tries from the three-point field goal. .

However, this isn’t much of a concern for Tiu as he wants the guard to be more efficient even in defense.

“The challenge for Oczon is to be a complete player on both sides of the court. “This is growth for him that we look forward to, not just shooting because when I hired him I already knew he could shoot.”

MVP leader Gozum bolstered Benilde with another double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

With two games left in the knockout round, the best coach finally wants to see everyone stand out in the big moments and not be afraid to be the center of attention.

“I hope these guys aren’t afraid of the big moments when it comes to the playoffs.”

The Blazers will play Arellano and San Beda ahead of the Final Four. They currently hold a 12-4 record and tied with champion Letran who holds the same record.
