Anthony Davis set a season-high 37 points and 18 rebounds, Lonnie Walker IV added 25 and the Los Angeles Lakers beat the visiting Brooklyn Nets 116-103 on Sunday despite playing without LeBron James.

On the Lakers bench, Russell Westbrook had 14 points and 12 assists, while Austin Reaves finished with 15 points, ending a five-game losing streak for Los Angeles for only the third time this season. James missed his second game in a row with a groin injury.

Kevin Durant had 31 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists as the Nets lost a day after beating the Los Angeles Clippers on the road. Brooklyn relegated to 4-2 as Kyrie Irving was given a suspension by the team.

Cam Thomas scored 15 points and Edmond Sumner replaced Irving for their sixth straight win for the Nets. Brooklyn was absent from Seth Curry due to an injury to his left ankle. Curry scored 22 points against the Clippers on Saturday.

After 16 points in the second half, the Nets narrowed the lead to 91-87 with Durant’s two free throws remaining at 8:28. But the Lakers went to a 13-0 streak to regain control and pushed their advantage to 104-87. Walker collected seven points in the series.

Los Angeles were leading 109-91 with Austin Reaves’ 3-pointer in the final 4:11.

The Lakers got off to a fast start, leading 15-9 in the middle of the first quarter and leading 26-22 at the end of the opening period. Los Angeles, which closed the first half with a 14-point lead, dominated the timeout 55-46, 16 points behind Davis.

The Nets had a 13-3 streak at the end of the third quarter and cut the lead to 80-77 as they entered the final quarter.

Los Angeles shot 48.4 percent from the field and 40.7 percent from the 3-point range, with only nine turnovers. Brooklyn was held at 25.9 percent from the 3-point range.
