Minecraft the next big update is called Trails & Tales. We already knew most of the new features coming with the 1.20 update, but now we also know the release date: June 7th. Additions to the perennial voxel favorite include a gorgeous cherry blossom biome, an archaeological site, adorable riding camels and fan-voted sniffer crowd. Developer Mojang announced the date in their Minecraft Monthly video series.
These new cherry blossom biomes bring new trees, meaning new types of wood, which means new colors for craftable items. If you’ve ever dreamed of a pink front door, now is the time to shine. Camel mobs are another big feature as they can accommodate two players, allowing you to stay close to your friends. And let’s not forget the magical sniffer, a new creature that was voted on by the Minecraft crowd last year.
We had already known about the system of archaeology also. Any “suspicious sand” blocks in the desert biome can be swiped to reveal a pottery shard. Collect four of them and you will get a pot with a unique paint. Finally, I love nice bookshelves and efficient storage devices, so I’d be very happy with the new cutout bookshelves in the game if I were still a Minecrafter.
The embedded video above also briefly touches on this month’s event for Minecraft Legends, which will give you a unique mount skin. Our Ollie had mixed feelings about the action-RTS hybrid his review: “Once you see one biome, one mount, one piglin outpost, one well-defended base, you’ll see them all.” However, it might be worth giving Game Pass a quick try.
Regular Minecraft is still good. Maybe even better. The Java and Bedrock editions will receive the Trails & Trials update on June 7, as will the console versions.
