Raised in a military family, Christopher Scott moved more than 30 times, which instilled in him “the ability to feel comfortable in a new environment and even motivate it,” he said.

Today, the environments he explores and creates are virtual.

As CTO of 3D Design and Visualization Services at Infinite-Compute, Scott creates physically accurate virtual environments using familiar architectural products in conjunction with NVIDIA Omniverse Enterprise, a platform for connecting and building custom 3D pipelines.

With experience in leading edge engineering projects for the US Department of Defense, Scott now creates remodeling and visualization-focused virtual environments for the Architecture, Engineering, Construction, and Operations (AECO) industry.

These realistic virtual environments—whether electrical rooms, manufacturing plants, or modern home designs—allow you to quickly and efficiently design products, processes, and facilities before bringing them to life in the real world.

They’re also helping companies in AECO and other industries save money, speed up project delivery, and make projects interactive for customers as featured at NVIDIA GTC, the global conference on artificial intelligence and the metaverse, taking place online September 19-22.

“Physically accurate virtual environments help us deliver client projects faster while maintaining a high level of quality and consistent performance,” said Scott, who is currently based in Austin, Texas. “The key value we offer to customers is the ability to make better decisions with confidence.”

Scott uses Omniverse Create and Omniverse Connectors for several third-party applications to build his visualizations: Trimble SketchUp for 3D models for drafting and design; Autodesk Revit for 3D design and 2D building annotation; and Unreal Engine for creating walkthrough simulations and virtual 3D spaces.

In addition, he uses programs such as Blender to create visual effects, motion graphics and animation, and PlantFactory to model 3D vegetation, giving his virtual spaces a lively and natural aesthetic.

Accelerating a project with Omniverse

In just four years, Scott has grown from 50 projects to more than 3,500 a year, he says.

About 80 of his projects each month involve working with point cloud lidar, a complex process that involves converting spatial data into a set of coordinates for 3D models for manufacturing and design.

Using Omniverse doubles the performance for this demanding workload, he says, as it offers physically accurate photorealism and real-time rendering, as well as real-time synced user collaboration.

“Before, our team members functioned as separate productive islands,” Scott said. “Omniverse gave us the integrated collaboration we wanted to improve our efficiency and effectiveness.”

At the heart of Omniverse is Universal Scene Description, an extensible open source 3D framework and common language for creating virtual worlds.

“The Omniverse USD standard for integrating output from multiple programs has allowed our team to work collaboratively on the source of trust project, which has allowed us to work across multiple time zones much faster,” said Scott, who further accelerated his workflow by launching it. on NVIDIA RTX GPUs. , including RTX A6000 on Infinite-Compute cloud on demand.

“Very soon after I appreciated the depth and breadth of Omniverse, it became clear that investing in this pipeline not only allowed me to improve current operations,” he added. “It provides a platform for future growth – for my team members and my organization as a whole.”

While Scott says his work is more technical than creative, he sees the Omniverse as a way to connect those two sides of his brain.

“I would like to think that implementing technologies like Omniverse to provide cutting-edge solutions that have a meaningful and measurable impact on my clients’ business is a kind of creative exercise and perhaps even a work of art,” he said.
