LIV Golf It’s back for its second season in 2023, and the Saudi-backed startup is trying to gain momentum with its players poised to play in the major leagues.
The Masters has confirmed that it will honor invitations to exemptions and to those among the top 50 players in the world, according to OWGR.
That means we could see more drama as the best from LIV battle the best on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour on the biggest stage, with Rory McIlroy and Patrick Reed’s thrilling fight at the Dubai Desert Classic now showcasing theater in sports.
Dustin Johnson In his first season, he took home more than $35 million by winning individual and team championships.
Here’s everything you need to know about the final LIV Golf for the second season in 2023:
What is LIV Golf?
LIV Golf is the breakaway league led by the two-time Open champion Greg Norman He is supported as CEO and by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.
PIF has invested unprecedented amounts in sports, both for players to sign up and for wallets for each event, and has received condemnation from human rights charities such as Amnesty International.
It brings a new look to golf, with new competition rules and format, team direction emerging as its unique selling point.
There will be 12 teams and 48 players on each course, and the tournament will be played over 54 holes and three days instead of the traditional 72 holes and four days. No interruptions unlike the PGA Tour and DP World Tour, LIV Golf also added the shotgun start, which they say encourages faster play with groups starting from different holes and playing in different order across the course.
