I’m sure you all remember when 20th Century Fox and the producer Tom Rothman Totally ruined Deadpool’s character X-Men Origins: Wolverine! What they did with Deadpool in that movie will go down in history as one of Hollywood’s biggest brain farts! I still can’t believe that the creative team actually handled Deadpool this way.
luckily Ryan Reynolds managed to create an opportunity to do Deadpool a film that lives up to who the character is. It took some test footage and a fan rally to make it happen. Fortunately, it all worked out and Reynolds and his team were able to make some great movies. the third on the way!
Liev Schreiber also played a role in the film X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Victor Creed, aka Sabertooth. He recently interviewed him GQ, and he addressed the film, saying how happy he was to see Reynolds get Deadpool’s character right. he said:
“I want to say that Ryan did a great job with that transition[to the Deadpool movies]because I felt in a lot of ways it was very inconsistent with who that character was in ‘Origins.’ glad. it’s a mistake.”
One of the main reasons why fans were upset was the portrayal of Deadpool’s character in the movie because they stripped him of his personality! They stripped him of everything that made him Deadpool! In the comics, Deadpool is known for his witty and irreverent personality, constantly breaking the fourth wall and engaging in pranks. However, in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, when Deadpool appears at the film’s climax, he is portrayed as a dumb, mind-controlled killer who lacks the humor and charm that fans love. This drastic change in the character’s core characteristics left fans feeling betrayed and robbed of the essence that made Deadpool so beloved.
Then came Deadpool’s appearance, as he was given a completely different design, a sewn-on mouth, and a set of powers borrowed from other mutants. This image was a far cry from the visually stunning and realistic representation of the material that fans had hoped for. ugh.
I’m thankful that Deadpool is in the right hands now and that it’s such a successful franchise.
