Are you a fan of Celtic art? Do you like puzzles and board games? If so, you’ll love playing Knot Dice and Knot Dice Squared! They combine the classic Celtic art of knot-making, strategic dice rolling and numerous games and puzzles. You will create a unique Celtic knot design with these beautiful dice. Several games challenge your problem-solving skills while providing a creative outlet for your artistic side.
In Knot Dice, eight game designers have created twelve games and seven types of puzzles. And Knot Dice Squared is brought by Elizabeth Hargrave Wingspan on board to expand on the original with some refreshing changes and two brand new games.
Most games are designed for one to three players, many of which can be expanded to six if you have expansions and enough dice. Knot Dice is recommended for ages 8 and up, and its various games provide matches between 15 and 30 minutes.
This article covers Nodal cubes the main base game and the Knot Dice Squared expansion.
Gameplay Overview
Knot Dice has lots of games, puzzles and art. It is incredibly compact and fits in one box. There are 18 custom large cubes with Celtic knot design elements that can be connected to play 12 games and dozens of puzzles.

Knot Dice Squared brings even more variety to Knot Dice and accommodates more players. Knot Dice Squared adds 26 large dice of 3 modified types to the original game. There are dozens of puzzles, two new variants of the Knot Dice game and changes to all the original games. It’s worth mentioning that Elizabeth Hargrave, designer of Wingspan, co-developed “Hedgerous,” a unique competitive Knot Dice game exclusive to Knot Dice Squared. In addition, there are also four upgraded wooden tokens to increase the number of players to six in some games.
In Knot Dice, players will challenge their creativity as they attempt to create intricate Celtic knot patterns from simple shapes. Roll the dice to create unique patterns in the style of a Celtic knot. Generally, after rolling the dice, players must arrange them on the board according to certain rules of each game to create a valid knot pattern. Different games may vary in difficulty. There are three difficulty levels; low, medium and hard; so that everyone can enjoy the game, regardless of their skill level. In most games, players earn points by creating “complete patterns” within a given set of rules and objectives.

Game experience
In most Knot Dice games, the exciting game mechanics involve rolling dice and placing tiles (or, to be more precise, placing dice). It reminds me of games like roll & write Railroad Ink Challenge; however, you will actually be playing with physical dice. These excellent and durable dice are a joy to play with, giving the game a nice tactile feel. With its unique style, design and aesthetic, Knot Dice is a great game when it comes to production values; the dice are exceptional, of excellent quality and have outstanding and exquisite art.

Having a passion for both puzzles and art, I really wanted to try Knot Dice and it was challenging enough. It was challenging, but not too hard or difficult. Most Knot Dice games are simple and intuitive. Knot Dice has flexibility in how much time players have to complete the patterns; it allows players to play at their own pace without feeling rushed or overwhelmed. Plus, there’s enough variation in difficulty that even experienced players will find something new every time they play. Knot Dice games offer an enjoyable experience for all ages and skill levels.
Knot Dice is easy to learn but hard to master. It requires strategy, logic, luck and creativity as players must come up with multiple ways to arrange the dice into Celtic knots. The game can be adjusted for different skill levels, starting with rolling fewer dice like a beginner. At the same time, more experienced players may find it convenient to choose games that require rolling a lot of dice for a more serious challenge.

With so many different Knot Dice games and puzzles, each one provides hours of fun. No two gaming sessions are the same; each session offers unique challenges and opportunities for creative exploration. The replay value is virtually endless and the player interaction is exciting, whether in co-op or competitive modes.
