Jon Bernthal will reportedly return as Frank Castle/The Punisher in Disney+’s Daredevil: Born Again, according to sources The Hollywood Reporter. Bernthal joins Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio in the new series, all reprising their roles from the Netflix original Daredevil series.
After appearing and starring in Daredevil season 2, Bernthal went on to star in his own solo series for Netflix, playing the title character for two seasons that spanned 2017-19. Daredevil: Born Again is a sequel to the Netflix series and takes its name from one of the most popular Daredevil arcs of all time. Created by Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli in 1986, it reimagined Daredevil for a grittier ’80s audience and created many of the modern mythos for the character. This was just before they went on to collaborate again on another iconic comic book masterpiece: Batman: Year One in 1987.
Bernthal will be the last actor from previous TV productions to cross over to the MCU proper. Cox had a cameo in Spider-Man: No Road Home before making a guest appearance in She-Hulk. D’Onofrio appeared in Hawkeye, and Cox and D’Onofrio were central figures in the upcoming Echo series.
Writers and executive producers Matt Corman and Chris Ord are helming Daredevil: Born Again, which is slated for a spring 2024 release.
