The 40-year-old paceman left the pitch just before the close of the game on Thursday – the opening day of Lancashire’s county game against Somerset – and was not featured further due to what was described as a “minor issue” at the time.
It is understood that Anderson had the screening on Saturday night and the statement from the England and Wales Cricket Board on Sunday evening shed more light on the situation.
“Lancashire and England sailor James Anderson suffered a slight strain in his right groin during Lancashire’s LV= Insurance County Championship Division One match against Somerset at Emirates Old Trafford.”
Anderson was injured while bowling on day one on Thursday and was out of the field for the remainder of the game (Sunday), which ended in a draw.
“His condition will be evaluated close to the LV= Insurance Test match against Ireland on Thursday 1 June 2023 at Lord’s.”
Anderson starred at Old Trafford on Thursday, and was then coming out of games in his fourth consecutive four-day match for Red Rose and his final game before his only Test against Ireland.
England declared he was ready for duty with a brilliant opening eight-on-eight spell, where he knocked down five maidens, hit for five runs, and claimed two wickets.
Anderson was impressive with the ball before getting an injury for Lancashire.

Earlier on Sunday, Lancashire head coach Glen Chapple said after the final day’s stalemate: “Jimmy bowled really well in the first innings. It just irritated his groin. I don’t think it’s anything too serious.
“We have to be positive about his recovery, but obviously he did too badly to be in the game today.
“It looks like a thin crotch to me.”
The first Ashes Test begins June 16 in Edgbaston.
