Baked bean and ketchup maker Heinz has created a campaign to promote tomatoes in Fortnite using a map that tries to recreate one of its own tomato farms.
Entitled Tomato SOS, the map is designed to highlight the real, important cause: the decline in soil quality worldwide due to over-farming. The information on the map will shed more light on the threats to soil health – and hopefully ensure proper STEM learning.
Heinz describes the experience as “one of a kind,” with the storm shrinking more quickly to… highlight “the rapid rate at which soil conditions are deteriorating.” Now that’s quite a pickle.
The map shows the greenhouses where the young tomato plants are first grown before they are transported to the fields where they grow and ripen. In other words, you’ll be able to see the ketchup grown right under its sauce!
Of course, it’s all meant to curry favor with Heinz here too — the brand is using it to share that it’s doing more to protect the soil than ever before, and is committed to “growing 100% sustainable tomatoes by 2025 for ketchup all over the world.” ” and “net zero carbon emissions by 2050”.

“We can all play a role, quite literally, in protecting our soil and the delicious food that grows on it,” said Heinz’s head of sustainability, Christina Kenz. “This is a battle worth fighting.”
