Marcelo Bielsa appointed as Uruguay head coach.

The 67-year-old has been out of football management since his departure. Leeds almost 15 months ago.

The Uruguayan Football Federation has confirmed that Bielsa has been appointed for a deal that will last until the 2026 World Cup.

He replaced Diego Alonso as the national team boss.

Alonso’s contract expired after the World Cup. Train Earlier this season, it’s where Uruguay had a shocking breakout in the group stage.

Bielsa served as manager Argentina He had a four-year mandate from 1998 to 2004 and also responsible for Chile.

Bielsa returned Leeds to the Premier League from the Championship in 2020 and was one of the most popular managers in the club’s history.

But he left in February last year after four consecutive league defeats.

His long managerial career also cast spells with Athletic Bilbao, Marseille and Lille.

Uruguay is currently 16th in the FIFA world rankings and Bielsa’s first major campaign at the helm will be the Copa America in the United States next year.
