Want to learn more about Diablo 4 salvage? This in-game mechanic has many useful benefits, not the least of which is cleaning up your inventory after a long and tiring day ridding the Sanctuary of evil. During our time in Sanctuary, the blacksmith was probably the most visited resident in our town, and we’re very familiar with their rescue service, so here we detail everything it has to offer.

A blacksmith isn’t limited to salvage, he can also upgrade your favorite weapon. However, the rescue service they offer is by far the most useful in the Diablo 4 initial game and need to farm some materials needed for the upgrade. If you plan to run just one of the Diablo 4 classes, you can also salvage selected items that your class can’t use and get some purpose out of them. Perhaps the best use for saving is to get new wardrobe items that allow you to wear one piece of armor or jewelry while showing off the appearance of another. If this sounds like something you want to make the most of, come on over Diablo 4 release datehere’s everything you need to know about Diablo 4 salvage.

What to save and materials

Salvaged items with the help of a blacksmith can be used to obtain materials such as iron or sorghum. These resources are then used to upgrade armor and weapons. Since they contain some of the toughest opponents, upgrading your best gear is especially helpful before a grueling one Diablo 4 world boss or fortress, or later when you pick up their highest level drops.

Emergency materials

The following items can be salvaged from any Diablo 4 Blacksmith for these materials, but be aware that there is no guarantee as to what or how much you will receive. For example, you can salvage magic armor, but you’re not guaranteed to get a better skin in return.

  • Basic armor – Gray skin
  • Magic armor – Fine leather, rawhide
  • Rare armor – Fine leather, rawhide
  • Basic weapons and decorations – Iron pieces
  • Magic weapons and decorations – Iron pieces, silver ore
  • Rare weapons and jewelry – Pieces of iron, silver ore, veiled crystal

Raw hide and leather are used to upgrade armor, while iron, silver, and crystals are used to upgrade weapons.

When salvaging, always check the item’s stats first, as you cannot return an item from a salvage. If you have several of the same item, compare them and save the lower quality items first. In some of the larger villages, you’ll find a chest near the wardrobe where you can store anything you’re unsure of, so we recommend doing this before salvaging anything that might come in handy. You can also salvage multiple items at once, but by marking the ones you don’t need as junk in your inventory with a spacebar, or by salvaging everything in your inventory of a certain rarity.

How to save for transmog

The most important things to look out for when it comes to unlocking items for Transmogration Diablo 4 is that hovering over an item in your inventory either shows or doesn’t show the “opens a new view of scrapped” line. If this line appears on an item, it means you haven’t unlocked that skin yet. If not, you’ve either already unlocked that particular cosmetic or it’s not available.

Since you only need to salvage something once to unlock a look in your wardrobe, if you have several of the same item, look at the sale price and salvage the item with the lowest price. If you don’t need to salvage materials, you can sell a more valuable item to a gunsmith or armorer.

Save or sell?

As we mentioned above, anything you can salvage can also be sold, so it’s always worth asking yourself which items are worth salvaging. Our best recommendation for this comes down to transmog and resources. If you’re short on a certain material, it’s logical to use leftovers to get it, although some, like iron and sorghum, can be found in the world.

When it comes to transmog items, you only need to save something once for it to be unlocked in your wardrobe. So if you’ve already unlocked the look, consider selling rather than keeping.
