NEW DELHI: Young Asian medalists Deepak and vanshaj On the opening day of the IBA Junior Men’s and Women’s World Boxing Championships held in La Nucia, Spain, they started their campaign with a win.
After that Vishwanath Suresh India opened her campaign with an impressive win earlier in the day, with Deepak (75kg) firing all her guns, and it took a little over a minute to beat Albanian rival Useid Nika by Referee Stopping Contest decision.
Vanshaj, on the other hand, started out similarly and seemed to have full control against Uzbekistan. boltaev shavkatjon 63.5kg in the opening round match.
His dominating appearance throughout the competition caused all five judges to vote in his favor as he recorded a 5-0 win.
Haryana boys Vanshaj and Deepak won gold and bronze respectively at the ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships held in Jordan earlier this year.
Five Indians, including two men, will begin their fight on the second day of the prestigious championships.
Lashu Yadav (70kg) and Pranjal Yadav (81kg) will play their round of 16 matches respectively against Poland’s Marta Czerwinska and Uzbekistan’s Oltinoy Sotimboeva, while Preeti Dahiya (57kg) will face Colombia’s Claudia Daniela in the last 32 rounds.
In the men’s division, Ashish will face Iranian Nima Bayati in the last 32 laps, while Harsh will face Hungarian Levente Olah in the 60kg final 64 lap.
Indian boxers put on a historic show by winning 11 medals, eight of which were gold, in the final edition of the championships.
This year’s quota of 25 consists of 13 male and 12 female boxers.
