Season 03: Plaguefall just came out on Xbox and it’s very different from what we’ve done with other seasons or updates so far. A new rival robot faction was introduced in season 01, and this theme was expanded on in season 02. Robots have been in the game for almost a year now, so this time we wanted to shake things up a bit!

Season 03 introduces Lithophage Rockpox, a plague-like infection that attacks any rock formations it encounters – those of you who play the game know how important rocks are and how important they are. Press the right stick to yell “Rock and rock!” is a battle cry for those of us who decide to join the ranks Deep Rock Galaxy.

At Rockpox, we wanted to introduce a new element to the game that could appear anytime, anywhere. Now, during any current mission, a meteor carrying stonepox can crash into the cave. You have to call the Rock Cracker modules from the orbital space installation, destroy the meteorite and thereby expose the valuable plague hearts inside. Turning in these Plague Hearts allows you to advance in the Performance Pass (DRG’s free Battle Pass).

You can also find Lithophage Outbreaks – full-fledged stonepox infestations where you’ll face infected, hyper-aggressive enemies and risk getting infected yourself! Clearing the area of contaminated rock becomes part of the mission’s mission.

Gameplay cleanup

We also wanted Rockpox to be a new gameplay experience, so you’ll be able to handle it with industrial cleanup tools that you summon from orbit when you encounter an infested area. DRG is a cooperative game, so the gameplay must be cooperative. Stone pox cleaning involves applying a generous layer of LithoFoam with LithoFoamer and then vacuuming the cleaned area with LithoVac.

During single missions in single player mode, the friendly and diligent BOSCO robot accompanies you, helping you mine and deal with threats. For stone pox, BOSCO will help you vacuum the areas you’ve applied foam so you don’t have to change cleaners or do all the hard work yourself.

In general, Rockpox’s cleanup mechanics felt a bit strange at DRG: you’re a Deep Rock Galactic employee doing a job. Smallpox cleanup provides a safe(r)working environment for you and your fellow miners – and of course comes with additional rewards.

New grenades

Seasons 01 and 02 introduced new primary and secondary weapons respectively. And we just knew we wanted to try out new grenade ideas as soon as the opportunity arose. Season 03 was just such an opportunity – though we ended up broadening the definition of what exactly “grenade” entails quite broadly.

There are four character classes in the DRG – Driller, Engineer, Marksman, and Scout – and each class gets a new grenade in Season 03. The Driller gets a spring-loaded ripper, a set of saw blades that move in the direction you throw him. So, if you’re in a tunnel, you can quickly find it spinning around the walls and ceiling, eventually returning to you if you’re not careful. Engineer gets Shredder Swarm, a set of repurposed drones from the Rival faction from Season 01 and 02. Gunner gets Tactical Leadburster – after being thrown, it sticks to the surface and then continues to spray bullets in a 360-degree radius. . Finally, the Scout gets the Voltaic Stun Sweeper, an electric boomerang that bounces from enemy to enemy and stuns them.

That’s not all that’s included in season 03, and whether you’re a new miner or a returning miner, we hope you enjoy this new season as much as we did when we created it. Deep Rock Galaxy available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and the Windows Store. And it’s included with Game Pass, so if you have a subscription, see you at Hoxxes.
