Dead Island 2 seems destined to be a competent but unoriginal take on the zombie smash genre. I’m undecided whether I find this prospect entertaining or a mind-blowing waste of time, but the new extended 14-minute demo may help you decide.
Here is the video:
The demo goes into detail about the combat in Dead Island 2, using the thug character Dana as a starting point. In the early parts of the video, Dani is equipped with tools that make her an agile fighter, able to dodge attacks and pierce enemies with knives and swords. However, in the end, they changed her to a slower fighter who is able to block attacks and control hordes of zombies with sledgehammer and sledgehammer strikes.
There are also projectile weapons, explosives and electric traps in action, as well as battles with different types of zombies, including walkers, shamblers and runners, a grenade launcher variant doomed to explode, and a “hypermuted zombie” who is a big, tall boy. .
I look at it and think, there’s nothing unexpected and nothing I haven’t done before, and maybe I’m just too old and jaded to want to spend my fleeting free minutes smashing zombies to pieces again. Then, the next moment, I think, well, this really looks like a good version of his thing, and I’m sure it’s going to be a pretty good time, especially in co-op.
Dead Island 2 has been passed between developers and delayed several times over the past decade, but the latest release date push has brought it earlier. Should be released now April 21. Ed had game at Gamescom last year and had the same assessment as me, calling it a “surprisingly polished zombie that sticks to the script.”
