Designing Animated GIF images in Affinity Designer

Affinity Designer Video Tutorial

Animated GIFs are easy and popular to add animation to your projects. In this video I will work with artboards [much like transparent pages in old-school hand-drawn animation] to create simple animations. Affinity Designer has no option [yet] to save animated GIF files. As a workaround, I create a sequence of PNG images, which I upload to an online GIF maker instead.

Using external tools

To animate the GIF, I used ezgif. There are many other tools out there – some free, some subscriptions – and standalone programs that can save animated GIFs. If you have a tool or online application that you would like to use, please leave the name and URL in the comments below. Thank you!

I hope you enjoyed the video and were inspired to create your own animated GIF. I had fun making a few myself and have used some in this video and others for social media posts or replies. Affinity Designer is not an animation tool per se, but its vector graphics can be easily manipulated to create short GIF animations quickly and easily.
