MANILA, Philippines—Filipino bantamweight Carlo Paalam clinched the gold medal Saturday at the 2022 ASBC Asia Elite Men’s and Women’s Boxing Championships in Amman, Jordan.

Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Paalam dominated the -54kg class after beating Kazakhstan’s Makhmud Sabyrkhan 4-1 in the final.

The division’s top seed in the tournament, Sabyrkhan won a silver medal at last year’s AIBA World Boxing Championships.

Paalam’s gold success followed a pair of podium finishes by Nesthy Petecio (women’s featherweight) and Hergie Bacyadan (women’s middleweight).

Petecio and Bacyadan won bronze in their respective categories on Wednesday.

Petecio, 30, who also won a silver medal at the Tokyo Games, lost 5-0 to Kazakhstan’s Karina Ibragimova in the women’s 57kg featherweight semi-finals.

Meanwhile, in the women’s 75kg middleweight semi-finals, Bacyadan’s Ruzmetova Sokhiba from Uzbekistan won 3-2,
