The game was recently confirmed for the PlayStation 5.


Along with a recent release date to reveal, Baldur’s Gate 3 Developer Larian Studios has confirmed that the game will be available PlayStation 5 at launch, however, an Xbox the message was noticeably absent, leading many to assume that this was another very common situation Gaming console a third-party console exclusive, but Larian has just confirmed that the problem is actually “technical issues.”


Through a post from the developer’s community manager on the game’s subreddit, Larian Studios stated that “there is no platform exclusivity” preventing them from releasing Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox. The team is actually working on an Xbox version and has been “for some time”, but they chose not to confirm it because there is an issue with the split-screen co-op mode.

The post reads: “We don’t like to announce anything until we’re ready because we don’t want to get people’s hopes up until we’re sure we can do it.” In addition, the studio says that there is still hope for an Xbox version on other platforms “if it is technically possible”.

It is currently unclear what is causing Larian Studios’ problems with the Xbox and not the PlayStation, as the two should be largely equivalent in terms of hardware and performance. Some fans have speculated that the issue may be an afterthought Xbox Series Swhich is slightly underpowered compared to its X-series counterpart, but that’s pure speculation and will probably never be clearly explained.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is a long-awaited game in the field of tactical role-playing games. The last game in the series, Baldur’s Gate 2, was released back in 2000. It has since been abandoned as its original developer BioWaremoved on to other things, mainly Mass effect.

Then the franchise was picked up by Larian Studios, which is the most famous Divinity: Original Sin IIa 2017 tactical role-playing game, considered by many to be one of the best in the history of the genre.

Larian contacted Wizards of the Coast, the owners of the IP, and specifically asked to make a sequel to this beloved franchise. The game was released in Early Access in 2020, but the official release (nor the console versions) won’t happen until August 31st, later this year.
