TURIN (Italy): Novak Djokovic stays on course for a record equal to sixth place ATP Tour Finals Championship after 7-6 (7/5), 7-6 (8/6) win Taylor Fritz Saturday in Turin.
Djokovic ditched the bruise match. Danil Medvedev bossing the ninth-placed American in the semi-finals the previous day.
The 35-year-old Serbian will face the winner of the second semi-final. Andrey Rublev and Casper Ruud.
His victory in Sunday’s final will equate to Roger Federer’s six wins in this season’s eight-best player tournament in the world.
“I had to fight to survive,” Djokovic said.
“I wasn’t feeling very reactive or very comfortable. Coming from yesterday’s tough fight against Medvedev to today’s game, I knew it would take some time to adjust and find the dynamic move I needed against one of the best presenters, Fritz. On the tour.”
