Championship

Hull City moved up to 13th in the table with a 2-0 home win over West Brom last night. Ghana striker Benjamin Tetteh scored his first goal for the Tigers to give them a first-half lead, which was doubled thanks to a Dara O’Shea own goal after the break.

Ewood Park is the venue for one of two lunchtime kick-offs, with Blackburn Rovers hosting Sheffield United. Fourth in the table, nine points behind the Blades, who are in the second automatic promotion spot behind Burnley, Rovers took the lead courtesy of a Harry Pickering strike after five minutes. In the second early game of the afternoon, Cardiff City and Bristol City are scoreless at half-time.

the elite series

Manchester City and Newcastle United got the ball rolling in today’s lunchtime kick-off between the Premier League’s two state-owned clubs. It’s half-time at the Etihad Stadium, with Manchester City dominating their visitors for the first 45 minutes and taking the lead thanks to a fine solo goal from the in-form Phil Foden. Should City maintain their lead, they will close the gap between themselves and Arsenal to two points, having played a game more.

Saturday watch

Another weekend, another round the elite series Fixtures and top of the table Arsenal have what on paper at least looks like a relatively straightforward home game against struggling Bournemouth at the Emirates Stadium.

They will kick off in north London shortly after the final whistle on second-placed Manchester City’s clash with Newcastle United at the Etihad, while there are four other top-flight games to take place before Southampton’s 5.30pm (GMT) clash with Leicester City later this afternoon. Bottom of the table and four points from safety, Southampton are in dire need of a win over their fellow strugglers.

We’ll bring you team news, updates on all the goals as they go into the ground and flag up all the other key talking points on what promises to be another fascinating afternoon of top-level action.
