Everton have an extended midfield Abdoulaye Doucoureextending his contract for another year.
The 30-year-old’s contract was due to expire next month and he could leave Goodison Park on a free transfer, but the club under threat of relegation triggered the option to keep him for another 12 months.
Doucoure, who signed £20m from Watford in 2020, was frozen by former manager Frank Lampard – he started his first two league games of the season but none after that – but has since been a key figure for Sean Dyche, scoring four goals. Everton are trying to recover from the fall.
Everton will face Bournemouth on Sunday in what could be Doucoure’s last game for the club, and they know the win is guaranteed to keep them alive.
But Dyche could be without striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin and five injured fullbacks.
