It seems that the success of the Super Mario Bros movie has Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma interested in making an RPG series.

A Mario movie was always meant to be a success, and Nintendo itself played a big part in making it happen, along with the growing powerhouse Illumination. And now we know how successful it is as a movie late last month crossed the $1 billion mark at the box office, making it the fifth-highest-grossing animated film of all time and the 24th-highest-grossing film of all time. So, of course, all this success prompted Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom producer Aonuma to consider a game based on his own sword-wielding hero.

In an interview with Polygon, Aonuma talked about a number of Tears of the Kingdom topics and was asked about the possibility of a Zelda movie. “I’m definitely interested,” Aonuma said. “But unfortunately, I’m not the only one interested in something that makes things happen!” As he says, he can’t do it himself, even though he’s an executive producer on the show, so I can only imagine that he has some influence somewhere along the line. Director Hidemaro Fujibayashi also spoke about the possible film, saying, “Maybe the fan voice is important here.”

However, don’t bet on seeing a Zelda movie or even a Mario sequel anytime soon. At Nintendo the last call of the investorCEO Shuntaro Furukawa noted that the Mario movie boosted sales of the plumber’s games and memorabilia, and this was important to Nintendo.

Still, who needs a movie now that we have the behemoth that is Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom? Everyone is excited about it, even PlayStation and Xboxand there are reviews extremely positive in all directions. Shame on you you can’t pet a doghowever.
